NYCFC comes into the match versus Atlanta FC on a two-game winning streak. Atlanta has been dominant at home netting 12 goals in three victories. The Five Stripes went 5-1-2 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium last season, after it opened in September.
One of the keys for New York City FC thus far in their 5-0-1 mark in Eastern Conference play, has been the dominant playmaking of one Maxi Moralez. Moralez has three goals and two assists in his last five league games, including back-to-back matches which he finished with a goal and an assist.
Versatility Breeds for Competition
One of the trends for Head Coach Patrick Vieira is how versatile his club is.
“We have two good players in every single position,” Vieira said. “Players know that they have to perform, to work hard and if not it will make my job easier. The spot is there and we will give it to the one who deserves it.”
With Ronald Matarrita, Alex Ring and David Villa all returning to the squad from injuries, Vieira will have a few tough decisions to make this weekend.
Jo Inge Berget and Ebenezer Ofori both scored and performed well in the Bronx in midweek, while Matarrita was rivaling Moralez for Star of the Game on his first start of the season.
NYCFC have kept more clean sheets than any team in either conference (3), shutting out Sporting KC, Orlando City and RSL. It will be a tough test for the boys in blue though as Atlanta has won four straight games since the opening loss in Houston. The Five Stripes have recorded 13 goals during that stretch, while only allowing two.
