The Brooklyn Cyclones are starting to gain confidence and momentum, as the 2017 New York-Penn League Progresses.
Brooklyn was able to earn the first ever home victory at MCU Park on a sweltering Sunday afternoon, prior to dropping the second game of a doubleheader against Connecticut . It seemed as if the team as a whole was just trying to make solid contact with the ball, instead of forcing the home run.
It also seemed as if Brooklyn improved on the defensive side of the ball, as the team also had the first errorless game of the season. Lots of positive progress all around for this young club, who will look to continue that as the year progresses.
Leading the way in the Cyclones 7-6 victory in Game 1 was Quinn Brodey, Jose Miguel Medina and Carlos Sanchez all had two hits. Leon Byrd, Walter Rasquin, Matt Winaker, and Franklin Correa all recorded a hit for Brooklyn.
Though Game 2 was a tough 3-2 loss, there were definite signs that the team overall were going in a positive direction.
Reed Gamache tallied three hits, while Byrd, Rasquin, Winaker and Cecilio Aybar all had a hit. Doing a tremendous job on the mound was Pitcher Jose Carlos Medina, who struck out five batters in seven innings of work.
The Cyclones will complete this home series against the Connecticut Tigers on Monday, July 3 with the first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
