The St. John’s Women’s Basketball team 15-7 (7-4 BIG EAST) were able to shine in New York’s brightest stage in Madison Square Garden earning a 64-55 victory over Xavier (10-12, 2-9) in BIG EAST Conference play on January 29.
Leading the way on the offense for the Red Storm was Akina Wellere who had 17 points, from 6-0f-11 shooting from the floor and 4-of-6 shooting from the three-point arc. Jade Walker followed with 14 points and Imani Littleton had 12 points and 11 boards.
Under Head Coach Joe Tartamella, the Johnnies are 3-2 at MSG and 9-5 overall dating back to the 2003-04 season. The Red Storm has won six of the first eight contests since the series began when the Musketeers joined the BIG EAST prior to the 2013-14 season.
The Red Storm will now be on the road for the next two games, and will return to Carnesecca Arena on February 10 to host Villanova for a 8:00 pm game that will air on the FS1 network.
