There truly is no place like home, especially for the New York Cosmos, who always play very well at Shuart Stadium. After what was one of the club’s toughest road stretches of the season, the boys in Green hosted Puerto Rico FC and earned a 3-0 victory in North American Soccer League action on 7/30/16.
With this victory the Cosmos were able to earn a record-setting 10th straight Home Win, which sets a Modern Day NASL record The action was fast and furious between both sides, in the end though it was the smart play by the home team that earned the victory.
Starting things off for New York an aggressive play by Lucky Mkosana at the 16th minute, as Mkosana tried to push a beautiful pass to Yasmani Duk. This aggressive attack was enough to force Puerto Rico FC Captian captain Cristiano Dias to make a play on the ball, instead of clearing it though the ball went into the net for an own goal and an early 1-0 lead for the Cosmos.
The visiting side had two good chances in the First Half. One Went high of the cage around the 27 minute mark of the cage the other wide of the cage around the 35 minute mark, before New York having a brilliant opportunity at the 43 minute marker, thanks Juan Arango that was denied by the Puerto Rico FC Keeper David Meves.
New York Struck twice more in the Second Half, thanks to goals by Arango and Mkosana. In the cage for the Cosmos Keeper Jimmy Maurer made several huge plays to secure the clean sheet for the home team.
With the victory the Cosmos (4-1-2 Fall, 10-1-6 Overall) regain first place in the North American Soccer League Combined Standings. New York will next be in action on August 7 for a 4 p.m. ET kickoff against Rayo OKC.
