Preview of the St. John’s Men’s Basketball game v No. 10/12 Xavier

The St. John’s Men’s Basketball team (7-8, 0-2 BE) will have another tough Conference Test against the No. 10/12 Xavier (13-1, 1-1 BE) in a 9:15 pm game at Carnesecca Arena. Fans who are unable to attend the game in person can catch all the action on FS1.

Here are some notes to get the fans ready for the game:

St. John’s and Xavier will meet for the sixth time in series history, and this is the second meeting between these two teams at Carnesecca Arena. The Red Storm swept the regular-season in 2014-15, which included a 58-57 victory in their last contest on Feb. 23, 2015 at Madison Square Garden.

Chris Mullin made his collegiate playing debut against Xavier on Nov. 27, 1981 in the Lapchick Memorial Tournament at Carnesecca Arena (formerly Alumni Hall.)

St. John’s is going for its seventh win in 10 home games this season. The Red Storm have given up only 64.1`points-per-game at home and held five of its nine opponents below 60 points.

Freshman Center Yankuba Sima is two blocks away from moving into the top-10 of the program’s single-season blocks list. Sima is second in Division I with 47 rejections and the BIG EAST leader averaging 3.1 per-game.

Christian Jones has averaged 8.5 points and 6.7 rebounds his the last 10 games. In the 18 minutes played against No. 12/13 Providence the Forward recorded Seven Points, to go along with Six Rebounds.

Durand Johnson scored double-figures in six of hte last eight games (12.5 ppg) for the Red Storm.

St. John’s defense has delieverd its top performances thus far at Carnesecca Arena. The Red Storm has limited the opposition to just 64.1 points in seven games on its on-campus home, including four games in which teams have been held to less than 60 points.

Xavier comes into the game with a 13-1 overall record after winning 12-straight games to open the season. The Musketeers are 2-1 away from home with the lone loss coming at No. 16 Villanova, 95-64 in the BIG EAST Opener.

The Musketeers are third in the BIG EAST in scoring with 80.6 points-per-game on 45.4 percent shooting. Five players are averaging double-figures, including a team-high 14.3 points-per-game from Sophomore Guard Trevon Bluiett, who owns the eighth-highest scoring average in the BIG EAST.
