PHOTO GALLERY and POSTGAME Video: St. John’s MBB v Creighton

The St. John’s Men’s Basketball team (7-7, 0-1 BE) opened up BIG EAST Conference play with a 80-70 loss to Creighton (10-4, 1-0 BE).

Leading the way for the Red Storm was  Malik Ellison who scored a career-high 17.  Durand Johnson reached double-figures for the fifth-straight game with a 14-point effort. Yankuba Sima added 12 points to round out the scoring.

Creighton’s offense saw Geoffrey Groselle record a game-high 22 points to lead the Bluejays.

Here are some other intersting team notes:

St. John’s shot 53.3 percent in the second half, the fifth-best shooting percentage for the squad in either half this season. The Red Storm has shot 50.0 percent or better in a half on six occasions this season.

St. John’s made 27 field goals, the most since making 30 baskets earlier this season against Syracuse (Dec. 13).

Playing in his first game since Dec. 13 (Syracuse), Felix Balamou made his first start of the season and totaled nine points to go with five assists.

The Red Storm will return to action on Jan. 2 with a 3:30 p.m. road game against No. 12/13 Providence that will air on the Fox Sports 1 network, St. John’s will return to Carnesecca Arena on Jan. 6 with a 9:00 p.m. game against Xavier.
