In front of a sell-out crowd of 28,262 at Yankee Stadium New York City FC (7-11-6) grinded out a 3-1 victory over the Eastern Conference-leading D.C. United (13-8-5) in Major League Soccer action on 8/12.
Though New York City FC was a very aggressive attacking team, it was D.C. United that was able to get the first goal thanks to Alvaro Saborio, who found the back of the cage in the 36 minute marker.
NYCFC was down at the half, but the combination of great energy from the crowd in addition to some great play by the team allowed for a comeback victory-getting those amazing supporters and themselves three points that will be vital to the rest of this MLS Season.
Tommy McNamara got the home team on the board at the 51st minute mark in the Second Half, finishing off a great assist by Kwadwo Poku.
Captian David Villa added onto the New York City FC lead in the 80th minute, as the striker finished off the first ever assist for Andrea Pirlo in a NYCFC Uniform.
Poku finished off what was an amazing night for himself personally by recording a goal at the 88th minute that sealed the 3-1 victory and also a huge three points.
For Villa he now leads the team with his 14 goals, while Poku leads the team in assists. McNamara was able to record his fifth goal of the season with all on the field playing a more aggressive style of soccer.
New York City FC will be on the road for two matches starting at Columbus on August 19, they will be back at Yankee Stadium on August 29 when they host the Crew for a 4 pm match.
