The Fordham Women’s Basketball team is slated to play a 13-game nonconference schedule, it was announced Tuesday by Head Coach Stephanie Gaitley.
The Rams will play seven games inside the Rose Hill Gym, four true road contests, and two neutral site matchups in Las Vegas. Four opponents played in the 2015 NCAA Tournament, two more in the WNIT, and three were ranked in the Top 25 at some point last season.
Fordham opens the season Sunday, Nov. 15 at Penn State (6-24, 3-15 B1G), before making the short trip to Riverdale to take on Manhattan (3-27, 2-18 MAAC) Wednesday, Nov. 18 in the annual “Battle of the Bronx” series.
Six days later (Tuesday, Nov. 24), the Rams host Lafayette inside the Rose Hill Gym for the 2015-16 home opener. Fordham will then head out to Las Vegas for the second time in the last three seasons to participate in the South Point Shootout over Thanksgiving weekend. First up for the Rams is Texas Tech (15-16, 5-13 Big 12), who they will play Friday, Nov. 27. Fordham then takes on Syracuse (22-10, 11-5 ACC) the following day (Saturday, Nov. 28). The Orange was eliminated in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Rams return to Rose Hill Gym the following week to host a pair of Delaware schools. Fordham welcomes Delaware (15-17, 8-10 CAA) Thursday, Dec. 3, before matching up with Delaware State (5-25, 2-14 MEAC) Saturday, Dec. 5.
A short trip down the New Jersey Turnpike to Seton Hall (28-6, 15-3 BIG EAST) is slated for Wednesday, Dec. 9. The Pirates were eliminated in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Fordham then welcomes former Atlantic 10 rival Temple, who made it all the way to the semifinals of the WNIT, inside the Rose Hill Gym Saturday, Dec. 12, before traveling back to the Garden State two days later (Monday, Dec. 14) to take on Princeton (31-1, 14-0 Ivy League), who was the last undefeated team in the nation a year ago and lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament for their first and only loss.
The Rams then play Central Connecticut (19-13, 14-4 NEC) for the third time in the last two seasons Sunday, Dec. 20 inside the Rose Hill Gym. The two sides squared off at CCSU last December, before Fordham eliminated the Blue Devils in the first round of the WNIT.
After Christmas, the Ninth Annual Fordham Holiday Classic will take place inside the Rose Hill Gym Tuesday Dec. 29 and Wednesday Dec. 30. The Rams open with Texas A&M Corpus Christi (16-14, 12-6 Southland) and will face either New Mexico State (22-8, 12-2 WAC), a NCAA Tournament team a year ago, or Vanderbilt (15-16, 5-11 SEC) the following day.
