In what was a perfect day at Yankee Stadium and in front of a crowd of over 32,000 fans, it was one of the most thrilling victories for New York City FC (6-9-6) in the 5-3 decision over Orlando City SC (6-9-6) in Major League Soccer action at Yankee Stadium.

With elecricity from the amazing crowd crackling in the air and  the continued confidence and evolution of New York City FC. Fans got to see a team that fought back, played hard the whole match and eventually picked up the victory.

New York City FC got on the board first as Captain David Villa was set-up on a beauty of a pass by Angelino in the First Half. The Captain was not finished as Villa gave the club a 3-2 lead later on in the match.

Also recording goals were Javier Calle, Tommy McNamara and Mix Diskerud.

For Calle, the Colombian had his first goal for the Club and in Major League Soccer. That wasn’t the only history that was made on this day.

New York City FC also saw the debut of Defender Jefferson Mena, who entered in the 14th minute.

Also with thunderous chants of ‘We want Pirlo’ heard throughout the day, the ‘Maestro’ Andrea Pirlo, entered in the 57th minute after four days in with the club.

Those in attendance could already see the impact that the midfielder can make, making some incredibly beautiful passes and plays.

Midfielder Kwadwo Poku made a huge impact, recording three assists in the match. Poku now leads the Club with Five helpers this season.

Just arriving from his time with the USMNT Mix Diskerud also made a huge impact for New York City FC, as he was able to bring not only great energy but also a goal at the end of the match.

The one disappointment/downer to the day was the fact that three goals were scored by Orlando City SC as rookie Cyle Larin netted a hat trick (his first). Defense is going to be one thing that Head Coach Jason Kreis is going to keep an eye on as the season goes along.

New York City FC fought back though, and had some beautiful play to now get themselves currently one spot away from the Playoff part of the Eastern Conference Standings.

They will next be in action on August 1, when they host the Montreal Impact in a match that is set for 2:00 p.m. from Yankee Stadium. The match between NYCFC and Montreal will air on the YES Network.
