The Staten Island Yankees (10-8) showed fighting spirit in the three-game series with the Hudson Valley Renegades (9-8) but sadly it was the visiting team that took two-of the-three games to win the series between these two New York Penn League Rivals.
For the Baby Bombers they are still in a good place in the McNamara Division sitting in second place right behind Big Apple Rival the Brooklyn Cyclones.

Staten Island dropped the Series Opener, which was held on July 4by a final of 3-1. Leading the offense in that game was Griffin Gordon (pictured right) drove home Thairo Estrada in the bottom of the Fifth Inning.
Also having a solid offensive performance in that game was Jake Hernandez who totaled two singles while Jeff Hendrix, Jhalan Jackson and all had hits.
The Yankees earned a 3-2 victory in Game 2 on July 5. The Baby Bombers were able to plate runs in three consecutive innings from the second to the fourth.

Jackson helped the host get on the board first in the second inning with an RBI groundout to short, scoring Gordon. . Kyle Holder (pictured left) scored the Yankees’ second run of the game on a Gordon single to right field in the bottom of the Third. Zack Zehner, then tacked on another run in the bottom of the Fourth Inning on a sacrifice fly to give Staten Island a 3-0 lead that they would not relinquish.
Also contributing to the offense were Estrada and Griffin Gordon each recording two hits.
Staten Island had a late rally but not enough outs to complete it dropping the finale by a final of 7-5. Things did not look good for the Staten Island Yankees, who were no-hit until the Bottom of the 7th Inning.

It was in that frame that Gordan and Jake Hernandez got the offense going with back-to-back singles. Staten Island got the bases loaded when Brandon Wagner worked a walk, that set the stage for Drew Bridges. The Baby Bombers scored their first of the game on a passed ball that was followed by a wild pitch. Bridges hit a sacrifice fly that helped the Yankees cut the Hudson Valley lead 7-3.
Staten Island kept chipping away at the Renegades lead in the bottom of the Eighth Inning as Kyle Holder reached on a throwing later, to be later scored on via a groundout by Hernandez.
Things got exciting in the Ninth Inning as Bridges hit a sizzling double to get the fans at Richmond County Bank Ballpark buzzing. Zack Zehner blasted a ball to right field that was called for a ground-rule double to plate the fifth run of the frame.
Sadly though the team ran out of outs and were unable to complete the comeback bid.
The Staten Island Yankees have a day off today (Tuesday) before hitting the road for six games against Aberdeen and Auburn. Staten Island returns to Richmond County Bank Ballpark on Wednesday, July 15 for Jewish Heritage Night, sponsored by Gold’s. Free 2000 Championship Team card sets will be given to the first 2,500 fans in the ballpark.
