Major League Lacrosse announced on Tuesday that two New York Lizards players are being recognized for their valiant efforts in their Week 11 triumph over the Chesapeake Bayhawks. Goalie Drew Adams has been named the Warrior Defensive Player of the Week and Greg “Beast” Gurenlian the FOAthlete of the Week.
Adams saved 20 of the 33 shots against the Lizards for a 61 percent save performance, an improvement towards the overall 2015 season at 59 percent. He is currently leading the league in save percentages to keep his team afloat as the first place team. Additionally, he was awarded Coca-Cola Player of the Game.
Gurenlian went 24-for-30 in face-offs in last week’s victory with an 80 percent face-off win performance. This game marks the seventh time he has been awarded the FOAthlete of the Week award. He also picked up 15 ground balls to assist the Lizards in maintaining possession for the duration of the game.
Among other highlights of the Lizards’ 15-13 win over Chesapeake in Week 12, JoJo Marasco broke the tie within minutes of the game end for his second goal of the game. Winning this game helped the Lizards to secure their 100th franchise victory and a home game advantage for the playoff game on August 1st. Leading scorers included Paul Rabil who had a six-point game with four goals and one assist, while Rob Pannell had two goals and three assists. Other point contributors included Ned Crotty, Kevin Unterstein, Matt Gibson, Steve DeNapoli, and Tommy Palasek with an assist from Mike Stone.
