The New York Cosmos are not only performing well in the North American Soccer League, but so far fairing well in the US Open Cup Tournament, as the club had their first victory on Wednesday night.
Playing at Belson Stadium on the Campus of St. John’s University, the Cosmos used for the most part their super subs, and were able to earn a 3-0 victory over the Jersey Express.
The next stop for the Cosmos is the Fourth Round, which will be against New York City FC, the newest addition to Major League Soccer.
As always though the team is focusing on taking things one match/game at a time, and so far that philosophy has worked as the guys have remained centered throughout everything they have been going through.
In addition to the NASL Schedule and the US Open Cup, the Cosmos are also preparing for a match against Cuba….but that will come at another time.
Getting back to the match versus the Jersey Express, the Cosmos were able to get on the board on a pair of First Half goals from Leo Fernandes and Sebastián Guenzatti.
Fernandez got the Cosmos on the board first at the 14 minute mark, while also helping on the second goal from Guenzatti at the 40 minute.
Mads Stokkelien converted on a beauty of a penalty kick on the 81st minute to put the icing on the match.
The Cosmos will get ready to go on the road to take on Minnesota United FC on May 30 as the team looks to potentially capture the 2015 NASL Spring Championship in that match.
