On Thursday morning U.S. Soccer revealed potential pairings for Round 3 of the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup via a geographically-influenced draw. The New York Cosmos’ opponent when they enter the national competition on May 27 will be either New York Red Bulls II, the reserve side of Major League Soccer’s New York Red Bulls, or Jersey Express of USL PDL.

Jersey Express will play host to NYRBII on Wednesday, May 20 at 8 p.m. ET in Round 2 of the tournament. The Express are coming off their first ever win in Open Cup competition – 3-0 over New York Greek American SC on May 13. This will be NYRBII’s first ever match in the Open Cup; the team began its first season in USL earlier this year. All USL teams enter the competition in Round 2, followed by NASL clubs in Round 3 and MLS clubs in Round 4.

If Jersey Express defeat NYRBII they will host the Cosmos on their home pitch in Newark. If NYRBII prevails the Cosmos will be the home side in Round 3, hosting at Belson Stadium on the campus of St. John’s University in Queens, N.Y.

The Cosmos defeated the Brooklyn Italians at Belson Stadium and the New York Red Bulls at Shuart Stadium last year in their first Open Cup appearance. They fell on the road to the Philadelphia Union – 2-1 in extra time – in the fifth round of the competition.

Ticketing information for the Cosmos’ first Open Cup match of 2015 will be available soon.
