New York City FC goalkeeper Josh Saunders has been nominated for Major League Soccer Save of the Week for Week 10.
Saunders, who earned his sixth nomination of the season, is up for the Week 10 honor along with: David Bingham (San Jose), Evan Bush (Montreal), David Ousted (Vancouver) and Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake).
In the 66th minute of Sunday’s 2-1 loss at the Red Bulls, the MLS veteran came up big, denying forward Bradley Wright-Phillips on a breakaway. Wright-Phillips, who was vying for a hat-trick, received the ball in space and sprinted toward the goal. He slowed up play and instead of passing to an open Damien Perrinelle to his right, tried to net his third, but Saunders made himself big and rejected the effort.
The 34-year-old goalie, who had four saves, was also nominated for MLS Save of the Week in Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, Week 7 and Week 9.
