The New York Cosmos (1-1-0) will have their home opener on April 18 (today) against the Tampa Bay Rowdies (1-1-0) in North American Soccer League Action at Shuart Stadium on the campus of Hofstra University.
New York is going to not only have an action packed match on the filed, but prior to the first kick there will be many great pre-match festivities.
One thing to watch for is the Champions for Children’s Health Night Presented by the New York Hospital Queens. Part of the proceeds of the game will go to the Pediatric Center, which has dedicated their time and efforts to providing personal, friendly and convenient medical care to children and adolescents.
Fans should also keep an eye out for Cosmos Legends Pelé, Franz Beckenbauer, Werner Roth, Hubert Birkenmeier, Randy Horton, Andranik Eskandarian and other greats are all slated to be at the Stadium.
Match time is set for 7:00 p.m. with the action also set to air on ONE World Sports and ESPN 3, in case if you can’t be there in person.

Special home opener
This season’s home opener will be one to remember. Club icons Pelé and Franz Beckenbauer will be present to see the team’s 2015 home debut, with Pelé also being honored to celebrate the 40th anniversary of his signing with the team. To add to the excitement, Spanish legend Raúl González Blanco will make his first appearance at the home stadium in front of thousands of Cosmos fans.
Home opener record
After going 1-1-0 (W-D-L) in their first two contests, the Cosmos are finally playing their first home game of the season. New York defeated Fort Lauderdale 2-1 in its reboot match at home two seasons ago and bested Atlanta 4-0 in the first home match of 2014. With a win over the Rowdies on Saturday the Cosmos would move to 3-0-1 in season-opening matches at Shuart Stadium; their lone loss came to San Antonio in the 2014 Fall Season home opener.
