Fans standing in line on Saturday were treated to a carnival-like atmosphere at Bethpage Ballpark, emceed by The Wiseman from B-103. Long Island’s favorite mascot, QuackerJack, was on hand to pose for pictures and hang out with fans. QJ also set a World Record for most high fives by a mascot in a 35-second span, slapping fives with 62 total fans prior to the ticket windows opening. Baseball legend Bud Harrelson, Ducks manager Kevin Baez, 2014 Atlantic League Player of the Year Lew Ford and outfielder/Long Island native Bryan Sabatella were also at the ballpark to sign autographs and take pictures.
Complimentary refreshments were made available for fans courtesy of Centerplate, Hebrew National, North Fork Chips, Pepsi and Kona Ice. Children were able to spend the morning bouncing around in the Ducks Bounce House or testing their throwing speed at the Ducks Speed Pitch. The Waddle In Shop, the official merchandise store of the Ducks, opened to the public beginning at 8:30, and fans were able to purchase brand new Ducks merchandise. Upon the ceremonious opening of the box office at 10:00, local rock and roll band Tony K. and Boardwalk played live on the concourse.
The Czark Family from Setauket, who were the first fans in line for a second consecutive year, were awarded a $500 gift card, courtesy of Bethpage Federal Credit Union. They also received special prizes from the Ducks, including the opportunity to enjoy the brand new Trout Town Fan Can on Opening Night (Friday, May 1), a luxury suite and first pitch for the Fan Appreciation Day game on September 13 and new Ducks apparel from the Waddle In Shop. Additionally, the Czarks were joined by the “youngest first fan in line,” seven-year-old Aaron, who received a game-worn Ducks batting helmet signed by Harrelson, Baez, Ford and Sabatella.
