The Fourth-ranked Villanova Men’s Basketball team advanced to the BIG EAST Tournament finals with a 63-61 victory over Providence, in a classic of a game on Friday at Madison Square Garden.
Villanova had three players in double-digit scoring led by Josh Hart who finished the night with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field. Heart, who was named as the BIG EAST Sixth Man of the Year continues to provide big minutes and plays for the Wildcats.
Daniel Ochefu had a big night for ‘Nova recording a double-double 15 points, while grabbing 13 boards. The forward also blocked five shots. Rounding out the scoring was Darrun Hilliard who had 12 points.
Providence put up a great fight against the team that was the top seed in the BIG EAST Tournament. The Friars had tied the game with 12 seconds left thanks to a Kris Dunn layup.
Dunn led the scoring for Providence with 22 points, while also dishing out nine assist and grabbed seven rebounds.
Villanova who returns to the BIG EAST Finals for the first time since 1997, and the first time under Head Coach Jay Wright are awaiting the winner of the Second Semifinal game happening between Georgetown and Xavier.
