The Hofstra Men’s Basketball team will head to Harrisonburg, Virginia on Saturday to face Colonial Athletic Association rival James Madison in the regular season finale for both squads.
Tip-off from the JMU Convocation Center is set for 4 p.m. and the game will be televised in the New York area on SNY. Check local listings for broadcast information in your area. Al Koken and Brad Jackson will have the call for the television broadcast.
Hofstra (19-11, 10-7 CAA) and James Madison (18-12, 11-6 CAA) will meet in the regular season finale and possibly in the quarterfinals of the CAA Championship.
The Pride will be in the 4/5 game in the conference tournament next week regardless of the results from this weekend. That game will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon from the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Maryland.
Hofstra has had a solid month of February as the Pride is 5-2, including wins in three of its last four games. Hofstra rolled past Charleston, 73-40, in its last game on Wednesday as senior center Moussa Kone celebrated his senior night with his fifth career double-double and second of the season as he had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Kone’s had an incredible first half as the Bronx, NY native scored 14 first half points to match the entire output in the opening 20 minutes by the Cougars.
The Pride will look to even the season series with the Dukes as JMU rallied from a 14-point deficit in the first game between the squads and earned a 69-63 victory over Hofstra back on January 24 in Hempstead. Kone had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds in that game, while Hofstra was led by 16 points and seven assists from junior guard Juan’ya Green.
Hofstra holds a 14-8 advantage in the all-time series with James Madison. The Pride and the Dukes split last season’s meetings with each team winning on their respective home courts. The squads first met when Hofstra joined the CAA beginning in the 2001-02 campaign. JMU won the only meeting in 2012-13 in Harrisonburg and before that Hofstra went 13-1 over a stretch of 14 games against the Dukes, including winning 12 straight in the series from 2003-2011.
Hofstra is led in scoring this season by Green, who is averaging team-bests of 17.2 points, 6.5 assists and 1.4 steals. Junior forward Ameen Tanksley is tops on the team with 5.7 rebounds and ranks second with 16.9 points per game.
The Dukes have a pair of players averaging in double figures as Ron Curry is first on the team with 13.6 points per outing, while Yohanny Dalembert is second with 11.6 points per game. Dalembert is JMU’s top rebounder with 5.9 per contest.
