For the fifth-consecutive week and the eighth time overall this season, Aliyyah Handford has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced this morning by the conference office.
Handford, in St. John’s only game of the week which resulted in a narrow defeat at RV/25 Seton Hall on Sunday, tallied a game-high 26 points to go with six rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks in 31 minutes of action. The junior guard hit on 11-of-20 of her field goal attempts and all four of her tries from the free throw line on her way to registering her 12th 20-point scoring game of the season.
Handford led a furious second-half comeback by the Red Storm on Sunday, scoring 19 of her 26 points after the intermission to help St. John’s cut a 20-point deficit with seven minutes remaining in the contest to two points with just under two minutes to go.
After playing the last three games on the road, St. John’s returns to Carnesecca Arena on Friday, Feb. 6, for a BIG EAST Conference clash with Creighton at 7 p.m.
