Sir’Dominic Pointer Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

St. John’s senior Sir’Dominic Pointer was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the second time in the last five weeks on Monday after averaging 18.0 points and 11.0 rebounds in two games. Pointer shot 53.3 percent (16-of-30) from the field in the Red Storm’s contests versus Marquette and No. 5 Duke last week.

One of the most versatile players in the BIG EAST, Pointer filled the stat sheet averaging 5.0 assists, 4.5 blocks, 2.5 steals to go along with a 2.5 assist-to-turnover ratio during the two game stretch. Pointer currently ranks in the top-5 of the BIG EAST in rebounding (7.3), steals (2.2), blocks (2.2) and has an 11.8 scoring average this season.

Pointer delivered one of the top performances of his career on Wednesday to lead St. John’s to a 60-57 victory over Marquette at Madison Square Garden. He went for 15 points, 12 rebounds, six blocks, six assists and had two steals. Then on Sunday, Pointer recorded his second straight double-double and the fourth of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds versus Duke. He also notched four assists, three blocks and three steals versus the Blue Devils.

The Red Storm has had a player earn a BIG EAST weekly award nine straight weeks. D’Angelo Harrison has received six honors, including BIG EAST Player of the Week recognition on Dec. 8 and Dec. 15. Rysheed Jordan was named to the honor roll on Dec. 15, Phil Greene IV on Jan. 19 and Pointer collected the award on Dec. 29.

St. John’s returns to action Wednesday versus Creighton at CenturyLink Center Omaha. The contest will air on FOX Sports 1 and 570 AM at 9 p.m. eastern. The Red Storm is back at Madison Square Garden Saturday versus Providence at noon on FOX.
