Nets Unveil Brooklynized Version of Franchise’s ABA ‘Stars and Stripes’ Uniform

The Nets are paying homage to champions of the past with their new alternate uniform, a Brooklynized version of the ABA Nets ‘Stars and Stripes’ uniform, worn from 1972-1976. The Nets will debut the new look when they host the Phoenix Suns at Barclays Center on Friday, March 6, and will continue to wear it for four additional games this season.

Designed by adidas, the short-sleeve, v-neck jersey features a white body with black piping and trim line, a signature black NETS word mark across the chest, the name and number in black, and three stars down the side. The pattern continues on the shorts, which feature two stars.

The Nets began wearing the ‘Stars and Stripes’ uniform in February 1972 when the team started playing in Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Long Island. The Nets played in three ABA Finals, and won the ABA title twice (1974 and 1976) in the ‘Stars and Stripes’ uniform.

“We are proud to pay homage to one of the greatest periods in Nets history,” said Brooklyn Nets and Barclays Center CEO Brett Yormark. “The refreshed ‘Stars and Stripes’ uniform connects today’s Nets in Brooklyn with the team’s legacy on Long Island, while also incorporating our team’s signature black and white.”

The Brooklyn ‘Stars and Stripes’ uniform, along with t-shirts and hats, are currently available for adults and kids at the Nets Shop by adidas at Barclays Center and on NetsStore.com. Images of the jersey and collection are available here.

To accompany the debut of the new uniform, the Brooklynettes dance team is hosting a Fashion Face-Off design contest for local fashion design students. The winning look will be worn by the Brooklynettes in a center court performance on March 6. The winning design will be produced by David Dalrymple, who has created outfits for many of the leading women in entertainment, including Beyoncé, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Lopez, Pink, Shakira, and Alicia Keys. A special Brooklyn ‘Stars and Stripes’ five game ticket package starting at $100 is available for purchase by calling the Brooklyn Nets Ticket Office at 718-NETS-TIX or by visiting brooklynnets.com. Fans who purchase the package will receive an exclusive Nets duffle bag.
