New York City FC Acquire Midfielder Kwadwo Poku from Atlanta

New York City FC are pleased to announce the transfer of Ghanaian midfielder, Kwadwo Poku, from the Atlanta Silverbacks of the NASL. Poku made 25 appearances for Atlanta in 2014, scoring 2 goals, including the winning goal against MLS side Real Salt Lake in their US Open Cup 4th round match.

The versatile 22 year old has shown his ability since arriving in the US in late 2010. He exhibited his talent and led the Georgia Revolution of the NPSL in scoring in both 2011 and 2012 before moving to Atlanta in early 2014.

New York City FC Sporting Director, Claudio Reyna said:

“We are extremely excited to bring a young talent like Poku to New York City as we head into training camp ahead of our inaugural season.”

New York City FC Head Coach Jason Kreis added:

“In Poku, we are getting a fantastic young player at the perfect stage of his career. He can help strengthen our squad immediately, and at only 22, we know he will develop into an even more important player in the future.”

Speaking to NYCFC.com, Kwadwo Poku said:

“Joining New York City FC is an amazing opportunity to take my career to the next level in the MLS.

“I know that being part of an ambitious club like New York City FC will help me keep improving at this important stage of my career.”

New York City FC acquired his MLS rights from the Seattle Sounders  FC for a conditional 2017 SuperDraft Pick.
