The Fordham University Rams continue their 2014-2015 season, the 112th season of varsity basketball at Rose Hill, and continue their Atlantic 10 season by hosting the George Washington University Colonials in the historic Rose Hill Gym on Thursday, January 22, at 7:00 p.m.
The 90th anniversary of the Rose Hill Gym will also be celebrated on Thursday night with pregame and halftime tributes planned for the arena.
Fordham enters the game with a 5-11 overall record, 0-5 in the Atlantic 10, following a 60-49 conference loss at La Salle on Saturday. George Washington enters the game with a 14-4 overall record, 4-1 in the A-10, after a 63-53 league win at home over George Mason on Saturday.
Thursday night’s contest will be the 29th meeting between Fordham and George Washington on the hardwood with the Colonials leading the all-time series, which started in the 1914-15 season, 22-6. George Washington took both of last year’s meetings, 93-76, in the Smith Center on February 8 as Maurice Creek scored 20 points and Patricio Garino added 18 for the Colonials, and 70-67 on March 8 in the Rose Hill Gym behind 24 points from Creek while Branden Frazier led all scorers in the game for the Rams with 28 points.
Notes
* Fordham freshmen Eric Paschall and Chris Sengfelder are the only set of freshman teammates to be averaging more than 10.0 ppg and 5.0 rpg. Paschall is fifth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring with a 16.9 ppg average while also pulling down 5.7 rpg, while Sengfelder is averaging 11.1 ppg and 6.5 rpg. The only other freshman combo that was averaging 10.0 ppg and 5.0 rpg were Purdue’s Isaac Hass and Vince Edwards but Hayes is now averaging 9.8 ppg and 4.5 rpg while Edwards is averaging 10.0 ppg, 5.4 rpg.
* The 2014-2015 Fordham men’s basketball squad is becoming adept at taking away the ball. Through games of January 21, the Rams are second in the Atlantic 10, averaging 7.3 steals/game, including a season-high eleven in the South Carolina State game on Dec. 31. Junior Mandell Thomas leads the Rams with 35 steals, ranking second in the conference (2.2/game).
* Through games of January 21, the Fordham Rams have the Atlantic 10’s fifth leading scorer, and top freshman scorer, in freshman guard Eric Paschall (16.9 ppg) while Mandell Thomas is second in the conference in steals (2.2/game). The Rams also have the fourth leading rebounder in junior forward Ryan Rhoomes (8.9 rpg) while Antwoine Anderson is seventh in assists/game (3.5) and Rhoomes is eighth in the conference in blocked shots, averaging 1.4/game.
