The Fordham University Women’s Basketball team (14-5, 6-0 Atlantic 10) continued their stretch of good basketball in the 65-42 victory over Massachusetts (8-10, 2-4 Atlantic 10) in Rose Hill Gym on Wednesday.
In the first half of play Fordham established season highs in points (40) and shooting percentage (64.0 percent) in the first half, that helped to build a 40-17 lead at the break. The Rams also shutdown UMass on the defensive end of the floor by limiting the shots to only 25.9 percent (7-of-27) shooting.
The defense has been a huge key for the Rams in their stretch of Atlantic 10 play thus far, as the ladies continue a trend that was set within the programs history. Since the beginning of last year, Fordham has held its opponents to less than 50 points 17 times resulting in 17 victories.
As for the offense the team finished the contest shooting 48.9 percent from the field (23-of-47) and knocked 6-of-14 from downtown, while also going 13-of-16 from the charity stripe.
Leading the way on the offense was Freshman G’mrice Davis (Philadelphia, Pa.) who recorded 11 of her team-hig 13 points in the second half. Graduate Student Tiffany Ruffin (Seabrook, N.H.) tallied the first double-double of her career with 12 points (8-of-8 from the free throw line) and a career-high 12 boards to go along wit four assists and three steals.
Sophomore Hannah Missry (Jackson, N.J.) had a nice day of shooting going 4-of-7 from downtown, the guard knocked down her first three attempts to help the team gain the early lead.
