Phil Greene IV was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after leading St. John’s with 18.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in a pair of conference road games. Greene IV became the program’s 49th 1,000-point scorer on Wednesday posting a team-high 20 points en route to an 83-70 victory at Providence.

Greene IV is the fourth St. John’s player to receive a conference accolade this season and it is the second time in his career he has been named to the honor roll. The senior guard from Chicago shot 50.0 percent (6-of-12) from 3-point territory and 87.5 percent (7-of-8) at the free-throw line, while averaging 2.0 steals over the two game stretch.

On Wednesday, Greene IV buried a career-high five 3-pointers with four coming in the first half against the Friars. He scored nine points in a decisive 16-1 run that gave St. John’s a lead over Providence it would not relinquish. Greene’s 1,000th point came at 2:18 in the opening stanza when he buried his fourth triple. It was his second 20-point performance of the year and seventh in his career.

Greene IV went for 17 points, five rebounds and three steals on Sunday at DePaul. He was 6-of-6 at the free-throw line in his 10th double-digit scoring performance of the season. He is also the 13th leading scorer in the BIG EAST and is third on the team averaging 12.6 points through 17 games. He is also 12th in the conference averaging 1.6 3-pointers per contest.

St. John’s has had a player earn a BIG EAST weekly award eight straight weeks. D’Angelo Harrison has received six honors, including BIG EAST Player of the Week recognition on Dec. 8 and Dec. 15. Rysheed Jordan was named to the honor roll on Dec. 15 and Sir’Dominic Pointer on Dec. 29.

The Red Storm is back in action Wednesday at 7 p.m. versus Marquette at Madison Square Garden. FOX Sports 1 has the national telecast and the radio broadcast can be heard on 970 AM (WNYM).
