Fordham MBB Hosts South Carolina State on Wednesday

The Fordham University men’s basketball Rams continue their 2014-15 regular season, the 112thvarsity season on Rose Hill, on Wednesday afternoon, December 31, when they host the South Carolina State University Bulldogs at 12:00 p.m. in the historic Rose Hill Gym.  The game will be televised live on SportsNet NY (SNY) and broadcast on WFUV (90.7 FM) and www.wfuv.org as well as streamed live on www.fordhamsports.com.

Fordham enters the game with a 4-6 record following a 74-59 win over Howard in the Rose Hill Gym on Sunday night. South Carolina State enters the game with a 4-10 record after a 66-56 loss to Southern Utah in Las Vegas on December 23.

Paschal Fifth Among NCAA Division 1 Freshman Scorers

Freshman guard Eric Paschall is averaging 16.8 ppg, fifth in the Atlantic 10 and fifth best among all freshmen in the NCAA Division I.

Here are the top five NCAA Div. I freshmen scorers (through games of Dec. 29):

3) D’Angelo Russell, Ohio St……………..17.7
4) Jahlil Okafor, Duke……………………….17.4

High Ranking Rams:

Eric Paschall and Chris Sengfelder are just one of two sets of freshman teammates to be averaging more than 10.0 ppg and 5.0 rpg. Paschall is fifth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring with a 16.6 ppg average while also pulling down 5.6 rpg, while Sengfelder is averaging 11.3 ppg and 6.6 rpg. The only other freshman combo to be averaging 10.0 ppg and 5.0 rpg are Purdue’s Isaac Hass (11.5 ppg, 5.2 rpg) and Vince Edwards (10.4 ppg, 6.1 rpg).

Through games of December 29, the Fordham Rams have the Atlantic 10’s fifth leading scorer, and top fresh- man scorer, in freshman guard Eric Paschall (16.6 ppg) and the third leading rebounder in junior forward Ryan Rhoomes (10.2 rpg). Rhoomes is also third in the conference in blocked shots, averaging 1.8/game while Antwoine Anderson is third in assists/game (4.4).

Rams Rebounding Machine:

Through the first ten games of 2014-15, the Fordham Rams are back to their old habits of controlling the boards, averaging 38.4 rpg, third best in the Atlantic 10, and a +6.1 rpg margin, second best in the conference. Last year, the Rams averaged 37.2 rpg.

The Rams are especially adept on the offensive boards, averaging 14.2 offensive rpg, tops in the conference

Wednesday afternoon’s contest will be the first ever meeting between Fordham and South Carolina State on the hardwood.
