With their first pick of the draft, 6th overall, the Lizards picked up Shamel Bratton, who played with the Lizards in 2014.

“Shamel was somebody we were set on getting back here. He’s a very athletic two-way midfielder,” said Lizards Head Coach Joe Spallina. Joining Shamel on the field this season will be his twin brother Rhamel, who was picked up in the 12thround. Shamel and Rhamel played together at Huntington High School before they attended University of Virginia, where they were both members of the men’s lacrosse team.

Other notable pickups from the draft include Stephen Peyser and Cody Jamieson.

“We are really excited to get [Peyser] back. He was fighting off some injuries last season and we think he will be ready to go in April” said Spallina. “And Cody Jamieson is a world class talent. He is really looking forward to getting back into the MLL. He is someone with a championship pedigree and a proven scorer.”

Spallina added, “I was really happy with the way the draft broke out for us. We were able to address some needs as well as take some calculated risks with a few players with tremendous upside.”

These 12 new players will join the rest of the Lizards team when training camp kicks off at the end of March. The 2015 season is expected to kick off in early April.
