Minnesota Holds Off Georgia in NIT Season Tip-Off Tournament

The Minnesota Men’s Basketball team (4-2) was able to hold off the University of Georgia (3-3) by a final score of 66-62 to earn Third Place in the NIT Season Tip-Off Tournament.

Minnesota used a stellar First Half defense along with some good shooting to earn the victory.

The Golden Gophers had two players in double-digit scoring as Forward Joey King (Eagan, Minn) had a season-high 15 points, while Guard DeAndre Mathieu (Knoxville, Tenn.) followed with a season-high 12 points.

Minnesota came out of the gate firing from downtown (7 of 12) while forcing 15 Georgia turnovers in the first half. The defense for the Golden Gophers forced eight steals in the game, which was a big difference maker.
