Stony Brook Shines in Victory over LIU Brooklyn in NIT Season Tip-Off Tournament

The Stony Brook Men’s Basketball team (4-2) had a lot to be thankful for in the 73-54 victory over LIU Brooklyn (0-3)  in the NIT Season Tip-Off Tournament that was held at Madison Square Garden on Thursday.

There were four players that finished in double-digit scoring for the Seawolves who looked like a complete team early on in the year.

Leading the way for Stony Brook was Jameel Warney (Plainfield, NJ) who finished the game with a team-high 18 points. Warne also had a milestone moment in the game recording his 1,000 point in the Second Half of play on the second impressive dunk in the frame.

Also on the scoresheet for the Seawolves were Roland Nyama (Frankfurt, Germany) who recorded 16 points, Rayshaun McGrew (Chicago, Il.) had a strong showing with a double-double of 13 points and 11 boards, and Carson Puriefoy (Wenonah, N.J) who rounded out the scoring with 10 points.

LIU Brooklyn did give a good fight in the game showing potential whenever they went to the bucket, but could not find momentum when it came to finding those plays. Leading the way for the Blackbirds was Joel Hernandez (Teaneck, N.J.)
