Key Home Victory for Fordham in 37-13 Decision over Colgate

The #10 Fordham University Football team (8-1, 4-0) needed a big game today against Colgate University (4-5, 2-1) and were able to find it  and the 37-13 victory thanks to a total team effort that was seen at Jack Coffey Field.

Without starting Quarterback Mike Nebrich (Burke, Va.)  the Rams’ found outstanding play from Senior Peter Maetzold (Friendswood, Tex.) who completed 27 of 38 passes for 279 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed eight times for 35 yards.

Maetzold was able to find several great connections amongst the Rams’ receiving corps, which included the play of Junior Tebucky Jones, Jr. (Farmington, Conn.) who led all receivers with eight catches for 97 yards with two touchdowns. Brian Wetzel  (Dallas, Tex.) also had an impressive game for Fordham catching seven passes for 69 yards and one score and Light grabbed six passes for 68 yards.

The Rams did not hesitate to use their ground game throughout the night as Freshman Running back Chase Edmonds  (Harrisburg, Pa.) recorded his eighth 100-yard rushing game of the year, carrying 25 times for 114 yards and two scores.

Once again the Fordham defensive unit did an amazing job holding a very good Colgate team to just 41 passing yards and six points through the first 59:29 (the Raiders scored the final touchdown on a 32-yard pass with 31 seconds left in the game). The defense also picked off three passes and recorded a safety, limiting Colgate, who entered the game averaging more than 341 yards of offense/game, to 275 yards.

Leading the way for the defense was Linebacker George Dawson (Bronx, N.Y.) eight total tackles, six solo, including one for loss and he had an interception.
