History was made at MCU Park on October 16, 2014 as the Brooklyn Bolts of the FXFL took the field and worked their way into the hearts of those in attendance.
The combination of bad weather and some great defensive play by the Boston Brawlers could not keep this spunky Brooklyn team from winning the Inaugural Home Opener.
There was a different kind of electricity in the air on this night, as some of the top young talent tested out the field turf that was installed by the staff at MCU Park. With a crowd of very enthusiastic and loud Brooklyn fans in attendance to cheer on their team, the Bolts did not disappoint though it did take them a while to get into a groove.
Brooklyn seems to have quite a one-two punch in Wide Receivers Dioante Spencer and Kevin Elliott. Elliot led the way with two Touchdown catches, while Spencer had some monster plays during the course of the night. The Bolts were able to find their first score via a 4-yard run from Running Back Mario Fannin for the first ever touchdown in the Borough in over 70 years.
Hofstra Graduate and New Jersey-native Kareem Huggins had an outstanding night on the offense for the Bolts, impressing everyone considering the fact that he had joined the team recently. Huggins is one of many stories that the FXFL hopes to bring to the fans as he was someone without an opportunity to now having a place to showcase his skills, while also having an opportunity to once again play in front of his hometown crowd.
These are only a few of the stars and stories that will be told over what will be an action packed FXFL season.
It was a true battle in typical New York versus Boston sports fashion and just when the Brawlers looked like they may have gotten their first victory on the road, there was a huge safety that completely changed the momentum of the game.
Everyone on both the Brawlers and the Bolts had an opportunity to show what they can do and it is expected and hopeful for most of the young men seen on the field today to have an opportunity to make the National Football League in the future.
The Brooklyn Bolts will now take the lessons they learned from today and use it to improve in their next game, which will be at MCU Park against the Omaha Mammoths on October 24.
