#14/18 Fordham Football Hosts Penn on Saturday

The Fordham University football Rams continue their 2014 season, the 115th season of varsity football at Rose Hill, when they host the University of Pennsylvania Quakers on Saturday, October 11, on Jack Coffey Field at 1:00 pm. The game can be heard live on WFUV (90.7 FM) and on wfuv.org and will be streamed live on the Patriot League Network.

#14/18 Fordham (5-1, 2-0) enters the game after a 42-18 Patriot League win over Lafayette on Jack Coffey Field last Friday night. Penn (0-3, 0-1 Ivy) enters the game after a 31-13 league loss at Dartmouth last week.

This will be the sixth meeting between Fordham and Penn on the gridiron with the Quakers winning all five previous meetings. The series started with a 13-10 Penn win in 1992 while in the most recent meeting, the Quakers upended the Rams, 35-20, in

Philadelphia in 2011.  Fordham is 24-48 all-time against Ivy League schools, 20-41 on the NCAA FCS level, but won both of last year’s meetings with Ivy League schools (Columbia and Yale) and have won the past five meetings with Ivy League schools, including the win at Columbia earlier this year.

Fordham Sweeps Patriot League Football Weekly Awards:

Four members of the Fordham University Football Team were named as Corvias Patriot League Football Weekly Award Winners as quarterback Mike Nebrich and running back Chase Edmonds were listed to the Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week respectively for the third straight week.

Nebrich and Edmonds were joined by defensive lineman Brett Biestek and placekicker Michael Marando who were named as the Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, as the Rams swept the weekly awards.

On the year, Nebrich has completed 134 of 214 passes for 1,738 yards and 15 touchdowns. He leads the Patriot League and is tied for second in the NCAA FCS in passing yards and leads the league and is fifth in the nation in touchdown passes. He also leads the league and is fifth in the NCAA FCS in passing yards/game (289.7) and is tops in the conference and sixth in the NCAA FCS in points responsible for (98). He leads all active FCS players in career total offense and passing yards per game.

For Edmonds the Freshman has rushed for 910 yards on 128 carries with ten touchdowns and he has also returned 15 kickoffs for 314 yards (20.9/return) and caught seven passes for 52 yards and a score.

Biestek has recorded 21 total tackles, 18 solo, including 8.0 for loss and 6.0 sacks. He also has three quarterback hurries and two forced fumbles. He is second in the Patriot League and eleventh in the NCAA AFCS in sacks/game and is second in the league in tackles for loss.

In his Senior year Marando has made good on nine of his 12 field goal attempts and all 29 of his PATs. He is second in the Patriot League and 13th in the NCAA FCS in field goals/game (1.50) and is second in the league and 16th in the FCS in scoring (9.3 points/game).
