Revenge was sweet for the #16/19 Fordham University Football team (5-1, 2-0) in defeating the Lafayette College Leopards (2-3, 0-1). The last time these two teams met during the 2013 season it was the Leopards spoiling the Rams undefeated season.
While it is still early enough in the College Football season, the 42-18 decision was one for Fordham to build on. There has been a noticeable change in the team since the early loss to Villanova. In the last three games everything has been clicking for Fordham, which has included some great defensive play that has lead the team to some big victories.
In front of a National Television crew and a nice crowd at Jack Coffey Field, the Fordham Defense were able to keep Lafayette to a Field Goal in the First Quarter. The Rams found their first score when Freshman Running Back Chase Edmonds had a 44-yard rush that gave the hosts a 7-3 lead in the First Quarter.
Quarterback Mike Nebrich had a complete game for Fordham, recording positive numbers on both the passing end as well as the rushing end. Nebrich finished the game with 287 yards passing while also rushing for some big years as well. During the course of the night the Quarterback recorded his 50th touchdown pass.
One of the biggest passes of the night for Nebrich was the 58-yard completion to Senior Running Back Brian Wetzel at the 1:59 mark of the Second Quarter. Wetzel was able to score on that completion and the extra point by Michael Marando gave the Rams a 31-3 lead.
Lafayette started to gain momentum during the Second Half of the game, as Sophomore Quarterback Blake Searfoss found Junior Tight End Brian Keller for a 14 yard completion with 1:24 left in the Third Quarter. That touchdown plug a 2-point conversion cut the Fordham lead to 34-18.
Fordham revved up the offense one final time in the Fourth Quarter, as once again Edmonds made his way to the end zone twice, once for a touchdown and again for the 2-point conversion, as the Rams earned their second Patriot League victory of the season.
The Rams had huge defensive plays all over the field, that included the play of Senior Defensive Lineman Brett Biestek who recorded Four Quarterback Sacks.
Now the Fordham University Football team will get ready to take on the University of Pennsylvania on October 11, before going on the road to take on Patriot League foe Lehigh University.
