Long Island Ducks Open Three-Game Series versus Southern Maryland

The Long Island Ducks (70-58) return back to Bethpage Ballpark for a huge three-game series against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on September 9.

After winning four of the seven against Sugar Land, the Ducks will hope to continue to regain steam in the gain ground in the Atlantic League Playoff Race.

The Ducks who are currently in Second Place in the Liberty Division are 2.5 games behind the Somerset Patriots (79-50), meanwhile in the Wild Card Standings Long Island  sits in the Third Spot behind Lancaster (73-55) and Sugar Land (72-56).

On the hill it will be a battle of the righties as  Bobby Blevins takes the mound for the Ducks to take on Blue Crabs Gaby Hernandez.

Outfielder/Captain and Hitting Coach Lew Ford is ranked among the Atlantic League in several categories, including holding the second spot in Average (.347) and the top spot in RBIs (88). Infielder Brendan Harris is ranked Third in the League in Average (.305) , while Outfielder Adam Bailey ranks Third in the League in RBIs (84) and Fourth in the League in Average (.304) and Home Runs (18).

Starters Shaun Garceau, John Brownell, Jared Lansford  and Blevins are listed among the top in the League Leaders in different categories. Garecau and Brownell are ranked Second and Third in the League respectively in Victories (13). Brownell currently ranks Second in the League in Strikeouts (120) and is followed by Lansford who is Fourth (113), Brownell rounds out the List ranking Fifth (103).

Blevins and Lansford are also pretty well ranked in the ERA Category with Bobby currently in second place with his 2.73 ERA and Jared in Third with his 2.91 ERA).

On September the 5th Bailey and Blevins won the August Player of the Month and Pitcher of the Month by the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball.

Tonight Long Island will be holding their Ninth Annual Breast Cancer Awareness night tonight presented by PinkTie.org/1st Equity Title & Closing Services/Steiner Sports. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Commemorative T-Shirts, and Ducks staff members will also be handing out Commemorative Pamphlets. In addition, the Ducks will be wearing Commemorative Pink Jerseys, which will be auctioned off during the game through the seventh inning stretch. Bids will start at $75 and be increased in $10 increments. Fans can place their bids by visiting the auction tables located outside the Waddle In Shop on the main concourse behind home plate. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Breast Cancer Awareness organizations and coalitions in attendance. Former New York Mets and Yankees pitcher Dwight Gooden will also be in attendance on Tuesday in conjunction with PinkTie.org for Breast Cancer Awareness Night.

The Ducks will have two more games after tonight with Southern Maryland as these two teams will battle it out until September 11 at Bethpage Ballpark.
