Catching up with the LI Ducks the Southern Maryland Series

The Long Island Ducks (24-19) were winners of three of the five games they had to play against the Southern Maryland  Blue Crabs (19-26) in Atlantic League of Professional Baseball Action.

Long Island is currently Three Games out of First Place in the Liberty Division, and had some memorable games against the always competitive Blue Crabs.

Game One between these two teams was a slug fest as the Ducks earned the 11-6 victory on June 6, while Game 2 was an Extra Inning heartbreaker as the guys lost by the score of 3-2.

The Ducks split the Doubleheader on June 8, before storming back from a 4-1 deficit in the finale, with the guys winning the finale by the score of 7-4.

Some of the offensive leaders during the road trip was Cody Puckett who recorded six hits and two RBIs during the series. Joash Brodin had five hits and six RBIs, while Fehlandt Lentini had seven hits and four RBIs.

Long Island starters and overall pitching had some highlights as well, as Jon Meloan earned some huge saves during Game 1 of the Double Header on June 8 and during the Finale on June 9. Meloan worked two innings, giving up two hits one runs and sat down two batters during those two games. Starter Shaun Garceau became the first to record his fifth victory on June 9, with his seven hits, four runs and four strikeout performance.

As of June 10, Captain Lew Ford leads the Atlantic League in in Batting Average (.391) and RBI (14), while Garceau leads the leagues in wins with Five. Three Ducks starters lead the League in Strikeouts with John Brownell pacing all with 48, Bobby Blevins follows with 45 and Garceau rounds things out with 44.

The Ducks return home on Wednesday night when they take on the cross-sound rival Bridgeport Bluefish in the opener of a three-game series. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35. Slated for the start in Game One for Long Island will be Righty Jared Lansford against Bluefish righty D.J. Mitchell.
