Crazy how scheduling can work sometimes, the New York Lizards (9-5) did not have to face the Denver Outlaws (9-5) till the very last game of the Major League Lacrosse regular season.

Now these two teams will meet once again, this time with more on the line, as the winner of this game will get to advance to the Major League Lacrosse Championship taking place at Kennesaw, Georgia on Saturday, August 23 at 7:00 p.m.

Here are some notes to get fans ready for the big game set to take place on August 16:

Last Meeting:

The tight game was a nail biter, and in a 62 minute battle, New York came out on top. Goalie Drew Adams made an impressive 22 saves on the night, while 9 different players scored for the Lizards in a combination of offensive tactics. Kyle Hartzell won the Coca-Cola Player of the Game for his outstanding overtime performance.  For the Lizards it was the second time the team was able to defeat the Outlaws, the last victory coming in 2012.

Mile High Stadium unavailable:

With the Denver Bronco’s pre-season already underway, Saturday’s game will be played at Denver University’s Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium, the only dedicated lacrosse stadium in the country.

Lizards look for first ever win in Denver:

With two regular season wins at home and one post-season win against the Outlaws, the Lizards look to get their first ever win in Denver. Since the Outlaws first started playing in 2009, the Lizards have never been able to defeat them in Denver.

Anthony Kelly returns to Outlaws from IR:

Greg Gurenlian took advantage of Anthony Kelly’s absence in last Saturday’s game, going 18-27 at the faceoff X. This Saturday, Gurenlian will have to face one of the League’s top face-off specialists when Anthony Kelly (159- 303) returns from IR. When the two met earlier in the season in Denver, Gurenlian went 16-29.

All-time playoff series tied at 1-1:

The Lizards and the Outlaws have met twice in the post-season. The first meeting was in Chesapeake for the 2010 semifinals. The Lizards defeated the Outlaws, 16-12 and went on to play the Chesapeake Bayhawks in the Championship game. The Bayhawks would end up defeating the Lizards, 13-9 in the Championship game.

Last time they met in the playoffs:

New York and Denver met in the playoffs most recently in 2012. The Lizards took an early lead, going up 7-2 at halftime. Denver came back with an explosive third quarter, scoring seven goals in the third and four in the fourth. The Lizards scored four of their own in the third, but a scoreless fourth quarter gave the Outlaws a one-point lead and sent the Lizards home to end the season.
