Here are some notes for our New York Lizards fans as the team (7-4) prepares for a home game at Stony Brook University versus the Chesapeake Bayhawks (3-8) in Major League Lacrosse action on Sunday, July 27.
Six members of Team USA rejoin Lizards after FIL World Games:
The FIL World Games ended last weekend in Denver, meaning six Lizards players home to New York to rejoin The Lizards. Returning are Rob Pannell, Greg Gurenlian, Ned Crotty, Max Seibald, Drew Adams and Kyle Hartzell.
Lizards clinch playoff spot with win against Chesapeake:
With a 7-4 record so far this season, the Lizards can clinch a spot in the 2014 playoffs with a win over the Bayhawks. The Lizards can also clinch a playoff spot with a loss to Chesapeake AND a loss by Ohio AND a loss by Charlotte. At 3-8, the Bayhawks will be eliminated form playoffs with a loss. If they are eliminated, this will be the first time since 2009 that the Bayhawks do not make the post-season.
New York looks to defeat Chesapeake for the first time since 2011:
The Bayhawks boast 19 wins all-time against the Lizards. Trailing in the series with 12 wins, the Lizards look to defeat the Bayhawks for the first time since 2011, when they swept Chesapeake, winning 15-8 and 14-11.
Last Week’s Recap against Boston
New York held their own last week against a Boston team that had previously defeated the top ranked Denver Outlaws. Down six crucial players, The Lizards fought it out until the end and with 0:16 seconds left in the game, Michael Kimmel came down the field and scored a two pointer to send the game to overtime. One minute and forty seven seconds into overtime, JoJo Marasco netted the winning point and kept New York on a four game winning streak.
It will be social media day at Stony Brook University, as fans in attendance will get to participate in Social Media Trivia to have an opportunity to win some great New York Lizards prizes. Also the first 1,000 fans in attendance will get a six-pack of player cards featuring JoJo Marasco, Rob Pannell, Greg Gurenlian, Kyle Hartzell, Joe Fletcher, and Tommy Palasek.
The face-off between the Lizards and the Bayhawks is set for 3:00 p.m with the game set to air on the CBS Sports Network.
