Super Sunday for Cyclones in Shutout of Williamsport

On Superhero Night at MCU Park the Brooklyn Cyclones (17-19) shutout the Williamsport Crosscutters (18-18) in New York-Penn League action on Sunday.

The star for this game was pitcher Corey Oswalt (3-1) who pitched seven strong innings, striking out five batters. Oswalt was able to continue his positive pitching keeping the opposing team off their game, while being aggressive and attacking the strike zone.

Brooklyn’s offense continued to build on the game they had on Saturday, recording double digit hits for the second straight game. On this day the Cyclones were able to connect for 11 hits with four players recording two hits each; as Jhoan Urena, Michael Conforto, Michael Katz and Michael Bernal all recorded multi-hits in the game.

Urena struck for one of the bigger hits in the bottom of the Second Inning with a two-run double to left-center field. The infielder has now hit safely in six straight games, with four multiple-hit games during that stretch.

Conforto got his first multi-hit game as a professional while also making two plays in his first time patrolling the MCU Park outfield.

Prior to the game the Cyclones added lefthand pitcher Paul Paez to the roster. Paez was last with the Savannah Sand Gnats, where he had an 0-1 record with a 5.87 ERA in 16 games pitch. The Southpaw is no stranger to the Cyclones as he spent the majority of the 2013 season with the team.

The Cyclones and Crosscutters will conclude this three-game set on Monday, as the franchise will once again host Camp Day at MCU Park with a special start time of 11:30 a.m. for all the kids who wish to attend. The pitching match-up for that game is set to be a battle of the righties as Cyclones Marcos Molina (2-1, 0.94 ERA) takes on David Whitehead (2-2, 2.25 ERA).
