Clayton Henning drilled an RBI double in the top of the 10th, to lift the Hudson Valley Renegades (7-4) to a 1-0 victory over the Brooklyn Cyclones (8-3).

Brooklyn manager Tom Gamboa knew it was going to be a close game from the way the starters, Corey Oswalt and Hunter Wood, pitched the first two innings.
“That was fun to be a part of, fun to watch. Two great starting pitchers that both just pitched fantastic, I had a felling after two innings, with the wind blowing in and watching both guys pitch I told my coaches this looks like it is going to be a 1-0 game and will probably go extra innings,” Gamboa said.
Oswalt was great again striking out five batters in seven shutout innings, while only giving up three hits.
“Corey is pitching with a lot of confidence; he’s always been a strike thrower. But his stuff is getting better as he is maturing and getting older,” Gamboa said.
Corey, who has not given up a run in 13 innings this season, stuck to his game plan and got the job done.
“I felt good in the pen, and I had the same game plan the second time I was facing this team,” Oswalt said. “I just stuck with the same game plan and attacked the hitters.”
Like the Brooklyn pitching, the Hudson Valley pitchers pitched well only allowing seven base runners, and did not allow a Cyclone to get into scoring position.
“When we don’t get a guy to second base, we don’t have much of an opportunity to get a run,” Gamboa said about his offense.
This was Brooklyn’s fourth extra inning game of the season and even though they didn’t get the result they wanted the game still helps the team grow over the course of a season.
“These low scoring close games we’ve had does build character,” Gamboa said to 1495 Sports. “When we talked before the season about some of the guys being fearful or nervous about playing in front of the crowd and under the lights -now 11 quick games into the season and these Extra Inning games are character builders.”
The Cyclones, who had a six game winning streak snapped with the loss, look to rebound tomorrow as they head to Hudson Valley to play the Renegades. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. Brooklyn will return to MCU Park on Wednesday, June 25 as they will host the Aberdeen IronBirds in New York-Penn League action that is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
