Cyclones Snap Slump with 8-4 victory over Williamsport

There were many stories to be told in the Brooklyn Cyclones (16-19) 8-4 victory over the Williamsport Crosscutters (18-17) in New York-Penn League action on Saturday night.

One story was of the 2014 New York Mets Draft Pick Michael Conforto coming to the team and on his first day igniting a season-high six runs, via his first hit a single to right field in the frame.

The Cyclones bats who were able to make contact throughout, came alive after the milestone moment as singles by Michael Katz, Tyler Moore set up a perfect situation for Michael Bernal, who came through with a huge two-run single  to right field.

Brooklyn continued to put the petal to the medal in the sixth inning as a three-run shot by Adrian Abreu gave the hosts a 6-1 lead. At first it seemed as if Abreu was not going to get the homerun as the hit was originally called a double, but the call was reversed and the catcher was able to get his first homer of the year.

In the eighth the Cyclones added on two more runs before the Crosscutters cut the lead to 8-4 in the top of the ninth inning. On this night pitcher Luis Mateo was able to close out the game.

With the victory the Cyclones were able to snap an eight-game losing streak, but all of this could not have been done without the other part of the story.

The other part of tonight’s victory was the amazing pitching performance by Octavio Acosta (3-1) threw another strong game for the Cyclones, pitching eight innings and striking out seven.
