Fired Up Liberty Defeat Dream 77-75

The New York Liberty (8-13) were fired up thanks to the crowd of 17,252 thanks to the campers at Madison Square Garden, thanks to the fire and determination the hosts were able to defeat the Atlanta Dream (15-6) by a final of 77-75 in WNBA action on Wednesday.

New York controlled the momentum for most of the game, until the Dream came storming back in the Third Quarter, that was until the Fourth when the Liberty regained the momentum and eventually won the game.

The Liberty had four players in double-digit scoring as Tina Charles led the way with a double-double of 18 points and 15 boards. Sugar Rodgers had a great showing tonight with her 15 points, willing her way to the bucket while also having some nice moves during the course of the game. Plenette Pierson whose aggressive mentality and leadership had another fine shooting performance with a season-high 14 points and Anna Cruz got some huge shots throughout, rounded out all scoring with her 10 points.

For Charles the Center was able to record her 17th double-digit game. She also added 15 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season. Rodgers was once again a super-sub for the team in her fifth double-digit game of the season. Pondexter got the game-winning shot with about 0.4 left on the clock while also adding team-high seven assists.

Now the WNBA will be on to the 2014 All-Star game that will be held in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday, July 19. New York will have Cappie Pondexter and Tina Charles representing as Pondexter was announced as one of the starters, while Charles is named as one of the reserves.

After the All-Star Game the Liberty will be on the road for three big road games out West to take on Los Angeles, Seattle and Phoenix before returning back to the Garden on July 29 to take on the Washington Mystics. The game between the Liberty and Mystics is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with the game set to air on the MSG Network.
