The New York Cosmos announced on Thursday that the team has signed defender and New York native Hunter Gorskie to a contract extension. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“I’m happy to get this contract signed so that I can concentrate on the upcoming Fall Season,” Gorskie said. “Winning the NASL championship last season was a great achievement but the team is focused on defending our title.”
Gorskie, 23, joined the Cosmos in April 2013 after playing at Stanford University and for the San Jose Earthquakes reserve team. Gorskie started eight games for the Cosmos in 2013 and featured in three games in the Spring 2014 season.
“Hunter Gorskie is a player that has provided valuable depth and versatility on our team over the past year,” head coach Giovanni Savarese said. “He’s able to play a number of positions across the back line and we are very pleased he’ll be staying with us.”
The Cosmos open their Fall season on Saturday, July 12, against the San Antonio Scorpions. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm at Shuart Stadium.
