Cyclones split first doubleheader with Renegades

In a double header that saw a bit of everything the Brooklyn Cyclones (13-10) were able to split the first of two doubleheaders with the Hudson Valley Renegades (17-6) in New York-Penn League action at MCU Park on July 7.

Both games saw foul balls flying all over the place, including a few that came close to the press box area, a random fireworks show, two Cyclones players getting hit by a pitch, Amed Rosario and Dimas Ponce, Rosario is okay but Ponce was hit in the wrist pretty badly and maybe limited to defensive play only; and one of the members of the Beach Bums getting hit by a bat (reports are she is okay).

The Brooklyn Cyclones dropped a tough Game 1 against the Hudson Valley Renegades.  Starting pitcher Octavio Acosta (L, 2-1) went six innings, giving up five runs, three earned in the loss.

Leading the way on the offensive side for Brooklyn was catcher Tomas Nido who had three hits and two RBIs in Game 1. Jeffrey Diehl had two hits, while  Jhoan Urena had a homer in the fourth inning.

Hudson Valley played scrappy and aggressive baseball throughout, never giving up an at-bat while making all of the Cyclones pitchers work.

For the Renegades Catcher Wilmer Dominguez did well in his first appearance recording three hits and driving in one run. Left Fielder Clayton Henning finished Game One with two hits and one RBI.

In Game Two the Cyclones had a comeback victory as Hudson Valley was holding a 2-0 lead until the bottom of the 5th inning when Michael Katz had a three-run double to right field that gave the home team the 3-2 lead and eventual victory.

Staring pitcher Corey Oswalt picked up the victory (2-0) on a six inning, four hit, seven strikeout performance on the hill, allowing two runs (one earned).

Brooklyn will be back at it on Tuesday July 8, as they will once again face the Hudson Valley Renegades, with the first pitch for that game slated for 11:30 AM. The pitching match-up slated for Game One will have Cyclones righty Marcos Molina (1-0, 0.47 ERA) taking on Renegades righty Nolan Gannon (2-1, 0.56 ERA)
