Ferry Cup Series Split as Finale Postponed due to Rain

The Long Island Ducks (25-20) and the Bridgeport Bluefish (17-29) will have to decide the Ferry Cup Series another day as the Finale which was scheduled for Friday, June 13 was postponed due to the inclement weather.

Bridgeport was able to gain the 3-1 Game One victory on Wednesday, as Juan Martinez recorded two RBIs and Denny Almonte had an RBI single to lead the way for the Bluefish. Recording the lone run for Long Island was Fehlandt Lentini who had an RBI single to center.

In Game Two the Ducks came storming back in style as the combo of the Captain’s Lew Ford home run to go along with the complete game by pitcher John Brownell helped lead the team to an 8-1 victory on Thursday.

Also having a great offensive night in Game Two were Cody Puckett, Randy Ruiz and Jan Vazquez each added two hits for Long Island.

Thanks to his efforts at the dish Ford was named the Atlantic League Player of the Day for June 13. Ford went 3-4 with a pair of home runs and 4 RBIs in the Game Two victory.

The finale was washed away due to the rain and is now scheduled to be played as a doubleheader set for seven innings on June 30 beginning at 6:00 p.m.  Fans with tickets to Friday’s (6/13) game can exchange their tickets at the Bethpage Ballpark box office for any 2014 regular season Ducks home game, subject to availability.

Long Island will now begin an eight-game road trip on Saturday with a day/night doubleheader against the Somerset Patriots. Game one is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m. from TD Bank Ballpark and last seven innings, with game two following at 7:05 and scheduled for nine innings. Right-hander Rob Whitenack makes his debut for the Ducks in the opener against Patriots lefty Matt Maloney. Game two will feature righty Shaun Garceau for Long Island and right-hander Erik Arnesen for Somerset.
