Manhattan College senior Rhamel Brown earned a spot on the Lefty Driesell Defensive All-America team, CollegeInsider.com announced on Monday. The team consists of 25 finalists for the 2014 Lefty Driesell National Defensive Player of the Year award.A left-hander, Brown ended his tremendous career at Manhattan with his best season in a Jasper uniform. Brown earned the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year award for the third consecutive season after he once again led the conference by a wide margin in blocked shots per game (3.64 bpg) and ranks third in the nation in blocked shots.

The Brooklyn native finished the season averaging 10.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. He made 55.2 percent of his field goals and helped Manhattan outscore teams by an average of seven points a game, while holding opponents to just 40.9 percent shooting from the field.

A second team All-MAAC selection, Brown recently was named to the all-district second team by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

The Lefty Driesell award is named in honor of coaching legend Lefty Driesell, who is the only person to ever win 100 games at four different Division I schools. He is best known for his time at Maryland, leading the program to the National Invitational Tournament title in 1972 and its second-ever ACC Tournament Championship in 1984. He finished his career at Maryland with a 348-159 record and concluded his career with an impressive 786-394 mark.
