Manhattan College senior guard George Beamon was named one of 30 finalists for the Lou Henson Player of the Year Award, which is presented annually to the top mid-major player in Division I college basketball. The award is named in honor of Lou Henson, who retired after a spectacular coaching career that lasted 41 years.

Beamon had a remarkable senior season, helping lead the Jaspers to the 2014 MAAC championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance, in which Manhattan led Louisville, the defending national champions, with two minutes left before the Cardinals pulled out a 71-64 win.

Beamon averaged a team-leading 18.8 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game in helping the Jaspers reach 25 wins during the 2013-14 season. The 25 wins are the second most in program history, one behind the 1994-95 team that won 26 games. Beamon finished his career with 1,843 points, which ranks fourth in Manhattan College’s program history. He also ranks third all-time in steals (162) and 10th in three-point field goals made (123).

The Roslyn, N.Y. native scored 20+ points in 17 games this season, including two games in which he scored more than 30 points. He totaled five double-doubles this season and finished the season ranked among the top 10 rebounders in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Beamon was a first team All-MAAC selection for the second time in his career and earned first team all-district honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
