It was also announced on Tuesday that forward Alessandro Nosselli will return to the club for the 2014 season. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Alessandro was a difference-maker for our team last year,” head coach Giovanni Savarese said. “Not only did he contribute in terms of goals, but he was also a key part of the team’s tactical movement. Now that he’s had a full season to adjust to playing in the U.S., we’re expecting bigger things from him this year.”

Noselli, 33, made nine appearances (four starts) for the Cosmos during the team’s fall season championship campaign, scoring three goals, the third-most on the team.

Alessandro will forever live in the Cosmos’ history books as he scored the game-winning goal of the Cosmos’ first competitive game in nearly 30 years when the team beat Fort Lauderdale in the 2013 NASL fall season opener. Despite missing four matches due to injury during the middle of the season, Noselli still proved to be one of the club’s top goal scorers.

“I’m extremely excited about staying on with the team,” Noselli said. “We play an attractive possession-based style that is perfect for an attacking player such as myself. The camaraderie on this squad between the players is special and I’m looking forward to defending our championship title.”

An Italian native, he started his career with his hometown team, Udinese, but most recently played for Sassuolo in Italy’s Serie B. During his four seasons with Sassuolo, Noselli scored 38 goals in 99 league appearances, including a single-season career-high 18 goals during the 2009-10 season.
