Islanders v Oilers 3/6/14

Here are some notes as the New York Islanders (24-32-8) are on the road getting ready to take on the  Edmonton Oilers (21-34-8) in NHL action on Thursday night.

LAST GAME:

3/4/14: NYI 3 at WPG 2 (OT)
Michael Grabner scored in overtime to lift the Islanders to a 3-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday. The win was the Islanders’ 11th in their last 14 road games, as well as their fourth-in-five games at the raucous MTS Centre. Grabner finished the game with a goal and an assist, as did rookie Anders Lee.
TONIGHT’S MATCHUP
The Islanders continue a four-game trip through Western Canada tonight in Edmonton. The Isles are 9-3-0 in the last 12 games against the Oilers, but have not won in Edmonton since March 13, 2003 (0-3-0).
TEAM NOTES:
Trade Deadline: The Islanders dealt pending UFAs Thomas Vanek and Andrew MacDonald prior Wednesday’s NHL trade deadline. The total return for the duo included two second round picks, a third round pick and prospect Sebastian Collberg – the 33rd overall selection in the 2012 NHL Draft.
Back-To-Backs: The Islanders open their 14th set of back-to-back games tonight. They are 6-7-0 on the front end, and 5-6-2 on the back-end of back-to-backs this season. The club will total 17 back-to-back sets in 2013-14.
Hot Starter: Anders Lee has six points (4g/2a) in his first six career NHL games. He has three goals in his first four games this season since being called up after the Olympic break.

Kyle Okposo – 3 goals shy of 100
The Islanders and Oilers game is set to air on the MSG  Plus Network, with face-off scheduled for 9:30 p.m.
