Big night for Manhattan in victory over Siena

The Manhattan College men’s basketball team (13-3, 6-1 MAAC)  had four players finish in double figures in the 90-68 victory over Siena (7-11, 3-4 MAAC) in a big night for the Jaspers’ at Draddy Gymnasium.

In a game that featured the scored being tied three times and four lead changes Manhattan did not let Siena get on too many runs during the game and responded with big bucket after big bucket.

Senior Guard Michael Alvarado (Bronx, NY) had a milestone night, recording his 1,000th career point at the 16:50 mark for Manhattan. Alvarado led all Jaspers with his 21 points. Sophomore Forward Shane Richards (New York, NY) who finished the night with 15 points, hitting four clutch three-point shots for the Jaspers. Senior Forward/Center Rhamel Brown (Brooklyn, NY) continues to show his strength and speed in the low post finishing up the night with 13 points and three impressive blocks, while Junior Guard Donovan Kates (Hopkinsville, KY) had an impressive outing with his 10 points.

Every player had a chance to contribute, which will help the Jaspers’ big time as they continue conference play.

Manhattan will next be in action on Saturday as they are on the road taking on Fairfield University. The Manhattan v Fairfield game is set to air on the SNY network, with tip-off time scheduled for 1:30 p.m.


Michael Alvarado is the 34th Jasper in program history to surpass the 1,000-point mark … he joins classmate George Beamon as two Jaspers on the current squad to score more than 1,000 in his career … fellow senior Rhamel Brown stands at 985 points in his career … no senior class in Manhattan College history has ever had three 1,000-point scorers … Junior Forward Emmy Andujar (Bronx, NY) finished with seven points, four assists and two steals … Manhattan had 15 steals … it was the sixth time in the last eight games the Jaspers have finished with more than 10 steals in a game … Manhattan has won seven of its last eight conference games at Draddy Gymnasium, dating back to last season … Manhattan’s 13-3 start matches the 2001-02 team’s 13-3 start … it is the best record after 16 games for any Manhattan team since the 1994-95 team started its season at 14-2 on its way to a 23-2 mark.
