“With the end of the season, we wanted to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of some key individuals on our squad,” said Cosmos Head Coach Giovanni Savarese. “Obviously, Marcos has been instrumental for us and his contribution has been immense, but overall it’s been a tremendous team effort all season long.”

The other awards handed out were as follows:

  • Golden Boot Award (given to player who scored the most goals in the season, including postseason):Marcos Senna
  • Defender of the Year (given to the best defender during the season): Rovérsio
  • Coaches’ Award (given to the player who the coaching staff felt exemplified the most professional and courteous attitude throughout the season): Jimmy Maurer
  • Humanitarian Award (given to the player who gave the most of his time to community service): Juan Gonzalez

Captain Carlos Mendes was also given an award in recognition of being the first player signed by the Cosmos during the team’s reboot season.

“Carlos was the first player to commit to our project,” said Coach Giovanni Savarese. “It wasn’t an easy decision for him and it took courage on his part. He had offers from other clubs but chose to commit to our project at an early stage. There’s no question that his signing was integral in helping our recruitment process with the rest of the squad.”
